Major Anthony Hester was born and raised in Morehead City, NC. In 2009, he enlisted in the North Carolina National Guard as a 36B (Finance Technician). He was assigned to the 112th Finance Management Detachment, where he served as a Finance Technician and detachment XO.

In 2012, MAJ Hester earned his commission as a Military Intelligence Officer through the Army ROTC program at Elizabeth City State University before attending the Military Intelligence Basic Officer Leadership Course (MIBOLC) at Fort Huachuca, AZ. Upon completing MIBOLC, he served in the 1st Infantry Division as a Tactical Unmanned Aerial System (TUAS) platoon leader, Infantry Battalion Assistant S2, and Combined Arms Battalion Assistant S2. In 2016, MAJ Hester completed the Military Intelligence Captain’s Career Course (CCC) before being assigned to the 513th Military Intelligence Brigade (Theater). Upon arrival, he was assigned to the 202nd MI Battalion, where he oversaw and managed CI and HUMINT operations and deployment preparation to support collection activities in the USCENTCOM AOR.
MAJ Hester served as the 513th MIB (T) Brigade S2 before commanding the Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) from 2018-2020. Following command, he would report to the 189th IN BDE (CATB), where he served as an Operations Officer and Intelligence Observer Coach and Trainer (OC/T) for Army Reserve and National Guard units preparing for mobilization.

MAJ Hester currently serves at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte as an Assistant Professor of Military Science (APMS).
