Lieutenant Colonel Blake Smith assumed duties as the Professor of Military Science at UNC Charlotte, July 22, 2019.

Lieutenant Colonel Smith graduated from Wake Forest University in 2004 and commissioned as a quartermaster officer.  He has served in a variety of troop assignments.  From 2004-2006, he served as a platoon leader and company executive officer in 526 Brigade Support Battalion, 2 Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division deploying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. From 2007-2010, Smith served as a logistics officer and the Airborne Service Detachment commander, deploying twice in support of Operation Enduring Freedom with the 4th Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne).  Upon graduation from the Logistics Captains Career Course, Smith was assigned to 5/73rd Cav Squadron, 3BCT, 82nd Airborne Division where he commanded Delta Forward Support Company.  From 2011 to 2019, Smith was assigned to Joint Special Operations Command and other Special Operations Assignments where he served as Logistics Detachment Commander, Aide de Camp, HHC Commander, Support Troop Commander, Support Operations officer and G4 Director.

Lieutenant Colonel Smith holds an MA in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College and a Bachelor’s in Political Science from Wake Forest University.

His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal.  He has earned the Senior Parachutist Badge, the Air Assault Badge, the Pathfinder Badge, and the Rigger Badge.

Lieutenant Colonel Smith and his wife, Katie, live in Matthews, NC with their 4 Children.
